Of no sleeping-
I have successfully re-captured my thesis footage and have just finished the sound design for my final crit. That means I most likely will enhance it more in the coming days... But for now its tight enough to show the teachers.

I hope they approve, or at least mostly approve of my film. Its been a year, I'm so invested in it-
I've spent money,
time,
sleep,
sweat,
stress,
some friendships,
more sleep,
more money...

its adding up, i hope, in my final product.
It should look pretty fantastic.
In the meantime I want to sleep very badly,
but I have to soldier on.
By the way,
its 7 AM, and I haven't shut my eyes yet.

Also, my project is rendering, so I'm not lolligagging around on journals instead of working! Don't presume!haha. I did sneak in a facebook view, I must admit.

adios <3

OH THE JOY OF HARD DRIVE FAILURE!

i'll write two lovely legitimate posts when my heart starts beating again.
Until then, please keep your fingers crossed that I finish my thesis in time (technology's got it out for me. I was a day away from finishing).

a fax machine?
I have received my first summons to serve in jury duty, and I'm actually interested in doing it, but they summoned me for graduation day. Nooot gonna work.

But I can't mail in an extra, "excuse"... I have to fax it. Who faxes things these days? Hah, big huge machines that send things via the phone line? I wonder what I'm going to do now that my children someday will laugh at me for. Technology is so fast it freaks me out.

hello dear readers. (reference - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u981JhkK46o )

how is everyone! i dont know about you, but i've been grand. the weather has been so glorious, its inspired me to be adventurous, to be more out spoken, to go outside and stay outside. in doing so, i've made a lot of new friends, feel physically fit and pretty, and have earned a little bit of a tan. (i sing this song - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJIuJRSvVyU )

its been difficult to maintain discipline and do my SENIOR FREAKING THESIS. too busy having fun haha. much to my chagrin, i have been (most of the time) making the right choice and staying in at night to work on my film. darkness helps anyway, i can see the screen better.

oh, side note- i got an experimental animation piece into the Greater Philadelphia Student Film Festival (http://gpsff.com/index.php)

the festival itself was alright. the pieces were great, dont get me wrong, it was just the format of the show- they cut all of the pieces down to less than a minute! so i'm happy i got into the show, but i'm annoyed that they didnt show any of it! hah. i ranked 3rd in the experimental category so i'm happy about that.

PLEASE check out my full video (as well as a couple other little things) on my Vimeo page. i need to do so much more uploading its ridiculous. the piece that got in is called

"Viewfinder" http://vimeo.com/joannarevelle

looove you all
get outside!

this is Joanna here, reporting live from her front stoop.

Its been sunny for the past two days. Its a strange fluke. A very welcome strange fluke :)
The crocus in my backyard are blooming. I filmed a short piece about them.

The only issue with sunshine is that its difficult to edit in.
Think about it- glorious fresh air, the sun drying the rain soaked earth out enough to sit and picnic on, flowers are blooming, people are generally happier. So of COURSE I want to shut myself up in a dark room and stare at a computer screen for hours upon hours and hours.

Yea, exactly. But it must be done, because these next three weekends are booked solid with other peers' film shoots. Being on set is exciting, but it completely eats the day. You can't do anything on a film set apart from obsess over the film you're working on at that instant. Its not like when you go grocery shopping you let the dishwasher and laundry run while you go, and when you get back you can write a paper while waiting for your newly bought chicken tenders to bake.

Doesn't work that way, ha. So if I dont work now, I'll miss my chances. And I'm not that fond of last minute all-nighters.

Sigh. Working hard now will make summer that much more delicious I suppose.

Thats all for now. Smile <3

its crunch time ladies and gentlemen.
CRUNCH : the volume of work I have to do and the lack of TIME : in which to finish that volume in.

But at least spring break was great.
Went snowboarding in the Poconos. A boy invited me. Consequently I have a crush on him now. Happens :)

Check where we stayed-

Thesis production is over. Now on to editing, adr, color correction, and sound design. The next four weekends are booked solid with other people's shoots. It seems as though we've got all the time to finish, have to ourselves, but I dont. We dont.

Just watched "The Reader" for the first time, I wish I could've written/shot something this magnificent. Granted, they're seasoned professionals, twenty or thirty years older than I am and with twenty times the budget. Even so, jealousy is jealousy.

Its been raining for a day and a half straight, I feel entitled to be gloomy. I cant wait for the green chutes of flowers to start coming up again. I want to smell dirt. Is that strange?

My basement flooded! I burned cookies! I have a slight fever! Bah!

that was my thursday. now its friday night and things are looking better:
I'm only eating the not burnt part of the cookies
Tea and honey are making my throat and fever better
The landlord FINALLY came over and checked out the basement

and I rented "Streetcar Named Desire" today
so it should be a promising weekend :)

has been a doozie, and its only been two days.
First day was fine, I had intro to Aesthetics with Jay Baker. Future students or current who are looking for a good Lib Arts teacher- look into taking a class with Mr. Baker. He's excellent.

So that class was a relief. It was in the same classroom as the Vienna class I took with him last year. Kind of neat.

Then I had wednesday off and did a bit of post Christmas shopping which felt fantastic.

Thursday (today) I knew I'd have to prepare myself for... Today was my first day back to Senior Cinema class, and I had to face the kids I brought to upstate New York to shoot my thesis with. They were not happy with me, to say the least, so it was extremely rough. But its sunny here... I'm fed and like my classes otherwise, got neat new clothes and made some headway with my film so I'm trying to stay as optimistic as possible and not let haters bring down my spirits. Its a battle. Let me tell you, after being called out in front of the entire class and being called "a disgrace"... its challenging to stay inspired enough to set foot in class again.

I'll have to write an update to let you know how next week's Senior Cinema class goes. For what its worth, my professor was good, she played it cool and tried to settle the situation. I dont know how well it worked but I'm glad she was there and aware of the goings on.

I'll do my best to post happier blogs soon. With pictures!

Adios

Christmas/Winter break time!
Its been an odd mix for me, both relaxing and nearly boring
to busy and intensely stressful.

Its not really a break for me, because I decided a while back to shoot my thesis film over break,
to get it done with early, out of the way. Plus that way if I saw holes later on I'd have more time to review footage I'd have already shot and could go back and shoot more...

The biggest challenge though, is that I'm filming it in my hometown, about six hours north of here.
And all of my crew and equipment are from Philadelphia.
So transporting all of those things back and forth has been, well...
its been, interesting.

I'll try and keep my cool and just call the experience "interesting"

...wish me luck kiddos. I'll get back to you when I'm not about to have a freak out. Adios!
